Cookie Policy

What is a cookie?

Cookies are small files a website stores on your device to remember information about you and your preferences.

You decide which of them this site may use, and you can change your mind at any time.

How long does your choice last?

Six months

What kinds of cookies are used here?

Two kinds, described below, each with the switch that decides about it. This site is run by one person: I do not sell any information, and nothing collected here leaves my own server.

Always on Essential
These cannot be switched off, because the parts of the site they support would stop working without them. Nothing they hold leaves my own server, and none of it is sold.
- Login cookies
Remembers that you are signed in, so you do not have to log in again on every page or in every new tab. Cleared when you log out, which is what keeps signed-in areas reachable only while you are actually signed in.
- Preferences cookies
When you tell the site how it should behave, it remembers. That includes your light or dark theme and the choices you make on this very page.
Analytics
Visits are counted anonymously either way. Accepting these adds a random identifier kept on your device, so that your next visit is recognised as yours, and your account once you sign in. I run the analytics on my own server: the numbers are not shared with Google, with an advertising network, or with anyone else. You can switch these off and everything will keep working; the identifier is then removed from your device.
- Visitor cookies
A random identifier that recognises a returning visit, so that two visits a week apart are not counted as two different people. It is how I learn what was good enough to bring you back.

Counting page views

Count my visits anonymously

I count which pages get read, so I know which stories people like. No cookie is used, and I cannot tell who you are. The counts are kept for 25 months. Turn this off if you would rather not be counted.
