Terms of Service

Last updated on 31 October 2026.

Charlene's Tales helps readers find webnovels: it lists stories with links to where they are published, and keeps files and texts that readers share about them. It is run by one person, for free, as described in the Legal Notice. Using the site means accepting these terms.

Your account

You can read without an account. To create one, you must be at least 13, or older if your country sets a higher age for online accounts (15 in France). You are responsible for what is done with your account: keep your email inbox and your passkeys safe, since whoever has them can sign in as you.

You can delete your account at any time from your information page. The Privacy Policy says what goes and what stays.

What you may post

Links, descriptions, tags, files, texts, names and comments: only what you have the right to share. You keep your rights over it. You let Charlene's Tales store, copy, convert (to build an ebook, for instance) and show it, for free and worldwide, for as long as it is on the site. What you added to someone else's story stays there after you delete your account, credited to no one, since other readers rely on it.

Not allowed here:

  • anything illegal: a copy you have no right to share, hatred, harassment, threats, anything sexual involving a minor, someone else's private information;
  • explicit sexual content and graphic violence, even if legal: this site is for every age from 13;
  • spam, misleading links, and links to malware.

Authors and rights holders

Stories are often listed by readers before their author comes by. If you wrote one, open it and press "I am the author": you can take it over, or ask for its downloads and hosted texts to be taken offline. A moderator checks your proof by hand.

Without an account, or if you hold the rights without being the author (a publisher, a translator, an heir), write to contact@charlenes-tales.com with the story's address, which work it is, that you are allowed to act for it, and how to reach you. This also serves as a notice under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).

Reporting illegal content

With an account, use "Report" on the story or on the item. Without one, write to contact@charlenes-tales.com with:

  • the exact address (URL) of the content;
  • why you believe it is illegal;
  • your name and email address, unless the content is about the sexual abuse of a child;
  • a statement that you believe, in good faith, that what you say is true.

By email, you get an acknowledgement, then the decision. In the app, you are told when your report is upheld. This is the notice procedure of the EU Digital Services Act; the same address is its point of contact for users and authorities, in English or French.

How moderation works

Moderators are members of the site who were given the role. They read each report and decide by hand, against these terms and the law. The only automatic step: while a case waits, a link, section or file reported by an experienced contributor is hidden from everyone.

What a decision can do:

  • hide the content, or leave it as it is;
  • take points off the poster;
  • limit the poster's account: no posting and no reporting for a while, from 5 days, longer with each further decision, up to a year.

You are told in your notifications when your content is hidden or your account limited, and what it cost. To know the reason, or to contest the decision, write to contact@charlenes-tales.com: a decision can be undone. Repeatedly reporting in bad faith can, after a warning, get an account limited.

Downloads

Files are offered for your own reading. Do not sell them or share them elsewhere: their authors' rights apply to them.

What the site promises, and what it does not

Charlene's Tales is offered as it is. Features can be paused, changed or ended, and the site can be down. Stories it links to are on other sites, which it does not control. As far as the law allows, its publisher is not liable for what users post, before being told about it, nor for a loss caused by the site being unavailable.

An account that breaks these terms can be limited, as described above.

Changes

If these terms change in a way that matters, signed-in users are told on the site before it applies. The date at the top is the last change.

Law

These terms are governed by French law. If you live elsewhere, the protections of your own country that cannot be set aside by contract still apply to you.
